Applying the understanding of Energy transformation, consumption and usage in our world
Essential Questions:
  • How can one predict an object’s continued motion, changes in motion, or stability?
  • What are waves? What are electromagnetic waves?
  • When dropping a ball how does increasing the height change the height of the bounce?
  • How can this be explained in terms of potential and kinetic energy?
  • How is kinetic energy related to velocity?
  • How is energy transferred from one form to another?
  • How does the amount of stored energy change during a chemical reaction?
  • How does the everyday definition of “heat” differ from the scientific definition?
  • When does heat transfer between two objects?
  • How are temperature and energy related?

Essential Understandings:
  • The students will understand that energy exists in two forms, kinetic and potential energy and the relationship between those two forms can be seen as mechanical and chemical energy. Additionally, energy can neither be created or destroyed it gets transferred from one form to another.
  • Machines can increase or decrease the force needed to move an object or do work.
